All three feature stone fireplaces and original furniture. The lodge can accommodate up to 30 people a night and is accessible to the physically challenged. 8 family camping units with tent pads and fire pits. White Rock Mountain is 2,309 feet above sea level and received its name from the appearance of the lichen on the sheer bluffs that appear white from a distance. Guests at White Rock can enjoy incredible scenic views from the lodge, cabins, campground and bluffs. The forest is home to a large variety of wildlife including deer, bear, bald eagles, turkey and more.
The Arena is adjacent to the South Mountain Reservation, a 2,000 acre natural reserve which offers open space, picnic areas, barbecue sites, hiking trails, paddle boats and more. Located in the recreation complex behind the Arena are Essex County’s Turtle Back Zoo, Treetop Adventure Course, Safari MiniGolf and the new Educational Center, a perfect place for a fun-filled time for the entire family. The ice skating arena is open to the public for skating, group skating lessons, learn to speedskate lessons, private ice skating parties, along with figure skating sessions and ice hockey camps and clinics. Step into the past by visiting the three natural stone cabins and the lodge on White Rock Mountain built in the 1930’s by the Civilian Conservation Corps . White Rock Mountain offers a 13.4-mile loop trail south to Shores Lake and returns to intersect with the Ozark Highlands Trail. Around the rim of the mountaintop is a 1.5-mile loop trail.
Wind, rain and natural elements had caused the deterioration of the buildings over the years. In 1987 a volunteer group, Friends of White Rock, began a project to renovate the historic structures. With a lot of commitment and hard work, the lodge and cabins were restored to their original state in 1991. White Rock Mountain also offers nine primitive family camping sites. These easily accessible shaded campsites include tents pads, fire rings, grills, picnic tables and access to restrooms and water. Small RVs or pop-up campers can be accommodated at a few sites.
It is important to remember to treat wildlife with proper caution and respect. The safety of the animals, as well as your safety, depends on it. There are two developed OHV staging areas within South Cow Mountain with graveled access roads accessible by two-wheel drive vehicles. Access roads into these areas are narrow and winding. Travel trailers and large recreational vehicles are not recommended.
We provide management services to campgrounds, marinas, day use areas and other recreation sites for Federal, State and Local Agencies. These services include the maintenance and management of marinas, campgrounds, water recreation facilities, fast food service, fuel docks, boat rentals, bait and tackle stores and the sale of sundry items and services. The City is working with many community partners, including Missoula County and Five Valleys Land Trust to secure this area for future generations. Nestled in a forest on the western high point of Duluth, Minnesota, Spirit Mountain Campground offers walk-in tenting as well as 73 campsites equipped with fire pits, picnic tables and electricity. Thirty-nine sites have water hook-ups, and two shower buildings offer 24-hour convenience.
